Risk Assessment of Sea Level Rise for Karasu Coastal Area, Turkey

چکیده
Sea Level Rise (SLR) due to global warming is becoming a more pressing issue for coastal zones. This paper presents an overall analysis assess the risk of low-lying area in Karasu, Turkey. For SLR scenarios 1 m, 2 and 3 m by 2100, inundation levels were visualized using Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The eight-side rule applied as algorithm through Geographic Information System (GIS) ArcMap software with high-resolution DEM data generated eleven 1:5000 scale topographic maps. outcomes GIS-based maps indicated 1.40%, 6.02%, 29.27% total land scenarios, respectively. Risk have shown that water bodies, urban areas, arable land, beach areas higher at m. In scenario, along forests become well. almost all territorial features Karasu coast are found be inundated. effect based on population Gross Domestic Product (GDP) also analyzed. It lead much compared scenario. combined hazard–vulnerability shows estuarine west east region medium vulnerability. These results provide primary assessment decision-makers enhance use policies management plans.

متن کاملFuture Coastal Population Growth and Exposure to Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Flooding - A Global Assessment
Coastal zones are exposed to a range of coastal hazards including sea-level rise with its related effects. At the same time, they are more densely populated than the hinterland and exhibit higher rates of population growth and urbanisation. As this trend is expected to continue into the future, we investigate how coastal populations will be affected by such impacts at global and regional scales...
متن کاملSea-level rise induced amplification of coastal protection design heights
Coastal protection design heights typically consider the superimposed effects of tides, surges, waves, and relative sea-level rise (SLR), neglecting non-linear feedbacks between these forcing factors. Here, we use hydrodynamic modelling and multivariate statistics to show that shallow coastal areas are extremely sensitive to changing non-linear interactions between individual components caused ...
